Why I Have Been Using Notion

I have been avoiding this note taking app for a while, it keeps popping up though so I figured I would download it and instantly I can see why.

It works incredibly well out of the box with zero configuration, though it does have a few options you can change as well. It is a lovely application to use, both the Web App and the respective macOS and iOS counterparts.

Organisation

This is by far the killer feature of Notion, you can organise everything into pages that are then embedded inside of other pages, creating a contents list that you can use to easily navigate through them.

More importantly it isn’t just texts and notes, this application has the power to create Schedules, Roadmaps and even Databases which is really useful when you want something a little more than just a text document.

Formatting

The app has all the formatting you need with a few options including the option to select from a menu by highlighting text, using Markdown for inline formatting and also using the / key which allows you to select from a list of options you can add anything from new pages to call outs which make a piece of text stand out.

A call out looks kind of like this

Cost

Quite possibly one of the best parts about this application is the fact that it is completely free. Yeah, you get all of these amazing features for absolutely nothing, more importantly you can actually earn credits for the premium features by doing things such as installing the Chrome extension and sharing a link on the iOS application, the only thing on the list I haven’t done is the Chrome extension as I don’t really use Chrome very often but I have managed to collect $23 which is equivalent to 4 months of premium features.

There are 3 tiers for the premium, the first being personal pro which ups the guest count to unlimited, meaning you can share and collaborate with more guests. The other options are for Team and Enterprise which unlock things such as collaborative workspaces and more.
