My Setup – The Desk
An overview of the items on my desk.
“A nice simple plant that brightens up the desk a little, also provides good oxygen flow.”
In my previous post I detailed about the computer that is powering my development setup.
This time around I will go over the rest of the items on my desk.
Monitor
Acer XZ321Q
This monitor was a pain, I originally ordered a Samsung Space Saver however it had a dead pixel, the company agreed to replace it though it took them a long while to respond and they couldn’t replace it for the same one so I had a little look around their site at monitors a little more than the original one and ended up with this Glorious 31.5" 1440 144Hz Monitor. The screen is crisp and beautiful to look at games, such as Ori and the Blind Forest look incredible on it though I have yet to try out the 144Hz due to the lack of a GPU, which is an issue I will be fixing soon.
Audio Interface
M-Audio Mtrack 2x2
A solid audio interface, I can hook up a microphone as well as a guitar or bass to it thanks to the instrument and xlr ports. The big volume knob is fun to play around with and also makes for a very quick route when you forget how loud you turned it up for the movie last night.
Speakers
Presonus Eris 3.5
Solid Tweeters, makes music a pleasure to listen to, excellent quality even at higher volumes. Watching films and playing games with them is also a wonderful experience. Obviously at some point I would like to use them for mixing, once I feel my music is at a point I am comfortable with recording it.
Microphone
Shure SM58
A good microphone with great quality on a boom arm so that I can use it at my desk or stood up.
Plant
Aloe Vera
A nice simple plant that brightens up the desk a little, also provides good oxygen flow.
Graphics Tablet
HUION H420
A very cheap graphics tablet that I got to test out, I have played around with it a little in Krita and Photoshop. It’s definitely fun to use, however I need to work on my drawing ability to utilize it fully.
Mouse Mat
Pecham Extra Wide
A simple plain black extra wide mousemat, keeps my mouse and keyboard off of the desk.
Phone
iPhone 11 Pro
I am usually an Android person, I had a OnePlus 6t before this which I loved however I dropped it and the screen didn’t crack however something disconnected and the screen no longer turns on, I plan on tearing it apart and fixing it but in the meantime I have been using an iPhone 11 Pro which I must admit is quite a joyous experience, iOS is just simple and works… I do sometimes find myself missing Android features and will likely pick one up again in the future, especially when I come to learning to develop applications.
Mouse
Logitech G603
I wanted a Wireless Mouse and it is a dream to use, I love the mouse feet it slides nicely along my mouse mat, it’s accurate has 6 buttons which is more than enough for me, I don’t need an entire second keyboard on my mouse.
Keyboard
Ducky One Mini
I have had this keyboard for about 4 years now and it still works perfectly, I exchanged the keycaps for a selection of White and Blue keycaps, the fact it’s still working is a wonder to me I would highly recommend Ducky Keyboards if you ever need a new one, this one has been to 2 different cities and a town with me, has had a little water spilled on it and still has no issues. I did think the delete key was broken for a while but it turned out I had accidentally pressed the key shortcut to use the Home, Delete, End and Page Down Keys as arrow keys, once I figured this out I had to change the dip switches as my alt key had been moved from the slot it had the keycap on so I couldn’t find the shortcut to disable it again. Either way it is working again now and I love it.
Other Items
An iPod Classic Full of Music, a Sandisk 16GB, Two Wireless Xbox One Controllers, A drawing pad and pen/pencil case, A Muse Guitar Songbook.
The Desk and Chair
And finally it is all sat atop an Ikea Linnmon Desk with Adils legs and a simple Ikea Chair I have forgotten the name of however it is uncomfortable and I need a new one. the desk is nice though a little wobbly.
